Yesterday we learned the sad news that, after 14 years of exemplary leadership at Fort Herriman Middle School, Principal Rodney Shaw will be leaving. Mr. Shaw has received the assignment to work as an administrator on special assignment in Jordan School District’s Teaching and Learning Department, and next year will serve as the principal of the new middle school in Bluffdale.

Words inadequately express how much we will miss you, Mr. Shaw. We will never forget you, nor the legacy of learning you spearheaded at FHMS. We love you, Mr. Shaw!

On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, students will be allowed to dress for the Halloween holiday. Students are allowed to wear costumes, however those costumes must allow students to participate in the day’s activities. Clothing must be in compliance with current dress code rules, e.g. clothing shall cover the midriff, underwear, back, and cleavage at all times. Skirts, shorts, dresses etc., must be mid-thigh or longer when the student is seated. Tank tops, low-cut tops and spaghetti straps will not be permitted. Straps must be at least 3 inches in width.

Also, please note that the following are not allowed:

  • Masks and full face paint
  • Weapons and facsimiles of weapons
  • Costumes with reference to drugs or alcohol

Students may have temporary hair color, however, the hair dye will need to be completely removed when the student returns to school on the next school day.

Students who are not in compliance with the established dress code will be asked to change.

If you have any questions, please contact the FHMS administration at 801-412-2450.

Reality Town is a real-world simulation where students learn budgeting and money management skills. It is a fun activity but many volunteers are needed to run it. We are doing two sessions on Nov. 15th: the first is 7:10-9:00am and the second is 8:50-10:30am. If you are available and willing to help, please either contact the counseling center at (801) 412-2455, or fill out the online form.

We will be taking 50 current 9th grade students on a tour of University of Utah on Wednesday, October 24th.  On this tour, you will get to walk around the campus, learn more about the programs offered, and experience the feeling of being on a college campus. To sign up for this tour, click on this link and complete the Google Form by October 13th. It is on a first come first serve basis so please sign up quickly!

A welcome back open house will be held on Thursday, August 23 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM.  Teaches will be in their classrooms to meet students and parents, counselors will be available to meet with students and parents, and the school administration will be available to answer questions and share achievement data from last year's testing.

PTSA representatives will also be at the school.  At the PTSA table,  patrons can review and approve the PTSA 2018-19 budget, and PTSA members can vote for board members.

We hope to see you here!
