Dear Parent/Guardian:
Fort Herriman Middle School will be participating in the Utah Statewide Testing Program. The test date for the Explore Tests is Sept. 27th and will be administered to all 8th grade students during their 8th grade Team time. It has four components: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science.
The results of the Explore Test identifies student aptitudes, thus it helps students identify their strengths and weaknesses as they enter a crucial period in their education. The content of the EXPLORE test is similar to that of the ACT. Besides the academic assessment described above, the EXPLORE test also includes an interest inventory (72 questions about career choices), a background information questionnaire, and a needs assessment (to diagnose the needs of the student). All of these components make the EXPLORE test a useful assessment tool for students as they matriculate into high school.
We are very interested in providing a successful testing atmosphere for your child. With this in mind, we offer the following suggestions to parents:
1. Please insure attendance and promptness on the testing day. Those who are absent or late will miss some portions of the test.
2. A full night’s sleep along with a nutritious breakfast the day of the testing will increase your child’s alertness.
3. Please feel free to send your student to school with a water bottle.
It is our goal to have each of our students complete the whole test battery. We appreciate your cooperation with this important project.
